Active Alignment Therapy(AAT)
Active Alignment Therapy or (AAT) is the latest manual therapy for the treatment of TMJ Dysfunction. This procedure helps balance and coordinate the muscles between both sides of the jaw while it moves.
This in turn will help you correct the TMJ joint alignment during talking, chewing, swallowing, and yawning. *This can be a more effective and safer approach than using splints, injections, and muscle stimulation.
Symptoms of TMJ Dysfunction include:
- Pain in the TMJ (Jaw)
- Popping or Clicking
- Headaches
- Tinnitus (Ringing in the ears)
- Clenching of the teeth
- Grinding of the teeth
- Stiffness or limited mobility of the TMJ
- Ear pain or a feeling of pressure in the ears
In the past, passive techniques were used like splints and oral appliances that would only realign the jaw when it was closed. These treatments would help symptoms while the jaw was closed, but the jaw is a joint and a joints main function is to move. This means every time your jaw is opened the alignment will still be incorrect because the muscle coordination is still imbalanced.
(AAT) is an exciting new approach to treating TMJ dysfunction.
